Student Success Center slated for McCoy College of Business
$8 million gift from McCoy Building Supply plants the seed for student opportunities
The McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State University announced the creation of a new Student Success Center aimed at accelerating the preparation of business students for academic and career success, as well as a lifetime of leadership and achievement.
The announcement was made March 24 during the McCoy NEXT Gala Celebration.
“We are excited to be launching a new state-of-the-art Student Success Center in the McCoy College of Business," says Sanjay Ramchander, dean of the McCoy College. "This will be the first of its kind at Texas State University and among only a handful of such centers in business schools across the nation. The center will be one of the focal points of the McCoy College, elevating the entire student learning experience.
"As a hub for collaboration and connection, the center will occupy an attractive physical space in McCoy Hall and will provide resources that support student transition to the business school, offer professional development and networking opportunities, and prepare students for fulfilling careers."
The Student Success Center announcement was made possible by an $8 million gift from McCoy's Building Supply to create opportunities for matching donations and naming rights from other benefactors. "In our work and life, we’re at our best when we think about our decisions today in light of their impacts on future generations," says Meagan McCoy Jones, president and COO of McCoy's Building Supply. "My grandparents had a vision for supporting Texas State students with their initial gift almost 20 years ago, and it’s a privilege for now three generations of our family to support the work of the McCoy College of Business and the students at Texas State University.
The gala celebration also served to commemorate 50+ years of advancement at the McCoy College; honor Dr. Denise Smart, former dean of McCoy for her two decades of service; salute Dr. Denise Trauth for her 20 years of service and tenure as president of Texas State; and formally introduce Dr. Sanjay Ramchander, new dean of McCoy.
In addition to the transformative gift from McCoy's Building Supply, the gala raised more than $350,000 toward undergraduate scholarships or graduate fellowships.
The investment in student success will directly affect student retention, graduation rates, career readiness and long-term leadership, better enabling the McCoy College to provide graduates with more opportunities for productive and fulfilling careers.
"From his arrival, Dean Ramchander has had a vision for the Student Success Center as a place where our students and future business leaders and entrepreneurs have the support to grow themselves personally and professionally," says Brian McCoy, CEO and board chair of McCoy's Building Supply, and president of the McCoy College Foundation. "Businesses today will be able to connect early and quickly with students who will become their next leaders.
"None of us make it on our own, and the Student Success Center will be a place where our McCoy College students can connect faster and more deeply to help them thrive," the CEO says. "What a privilege it is to be a part of this important center, and we look forward to partnering with other donors and business owners to maximize its potential."
