A crowd of well-dressed donors, faculty and staff mingle at the 2021 Capital Campaign Gala event. Banners honor top-level donors, designating them as Texas State Heroes. Old Main can be seen peeking through the window in the background.

Tens of thousands of donors helped TXST exceed its goals in NEXT IS NOW, but the campaign couldn’t have succeeded without the support provided by campaign leaders.

William “Bill” Hobson and Loma Hobson have given $6.2 million across several programs, opening the doors to a TXST education for numerous students. “Our plan was not to have kids, but educate as many kids as possible,” said the Hobsons, who are both 1964 graduates of TXST.

The Hobsons are responsible for the William and Loma Hobson Endowment in Agricultural Science Research, a gift to fund scholarships for agricultural students, graduates of Sealy and Edna high schools, and a fellowship matching fund to support graduate researchers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The couple also made a gift of $250,000 to establish a permanent endowed scholarship for students pursuing nursing degrees. The scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students accepted and enrolled in the St. David’s School of Nursing at the Round Rock Campus who demonstrate financial need.

When it comes to athletics, Johnny and Nathali Weisman have been campaign leaders with their $4.1 million in giving.
